Heat pumps are at their most efficient when they only have to heat water to a low temperature. The harder a heat pump has to work to reach a high flow temperature, the more electricity it uses and the lower its efficiency.

This is exactly where underfloor heating has the advantage over traditional radiators. Because the whole floor becomes the heat emitter, spread across a huge surface area, it can warm a room effectively using much cooler water than a radiator would need. Lower flow temperature in, same comfortable room in return — which means your heat pump runs more efficiently, more of the time.
